Waco School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in Waco is August 17. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The Waco Independent School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

August

• 8/10 - 8/16: Staff Inservice/Workday
• 8/17: First Day of School

September

• 9/4: No School (Labor Day)
• 9/20: End of 6-Week

October

• 10/2: Beginning of 6-Week
• 10/9: No School for Students (Teacher Planning Day)

November

• 11/3: End of 6-Week
• 11/6: Beginning of 6-Week
• 11/17: Early Release for Students (Teacher Planning Day)
• 11/20 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving Break)

December

• 12/15: Early Release for Students (Teacher Planning Day)
• 12/18 - 12/19: No School for Students (Staff Inservice/Workday)
• 12/20 - 12/29: No School (Winter Break)

January

• 1/1 - 1/2: No School (Winter Break)
• 1/3: No School for Students (Teacher Workday)
• 1/15: No School (Martin Luther King Jr. Day)

February

• 2/16: End of 6-Week
• 2/19: No School (Bad Weather Day)
• 2/20: Beginning of 6-Week

March

• 3/2: Early Release for Students (Staff Inservice)
• 3/5 - 3/9: No School (Spring Break)
• 3/30: No School

April

• 4/2: No School for Students (Teacher Planning Day, (Bad Weather Day)
• 4/13: End of 6-Week
• 4/16: Beginning of 6-Week

May

• 5/28: No School (Memorial Day)
• 5/31: Last Day of School, Early Release for Students

June

• 6/1: Staff Inservice/Workday
• 6/4: Alternative Teacher Workday (only to be used if both bad weather make-up days are needed)
