The novelty of Color the Creek is that its a 'color run,' where participants are covered in non-toxic, cornstarch based paint. The powdered paint is easy to wash off of clothes and does no damage to the environment.

Racers will receive a white shirt that not only absorbs the colors, but also makes for a unique, one of a kind souvenir. Color bombardment is optional, individuals that don't wish to be pelted with color only need to tell the organizers. The participation fee for the 5K is $40 per person, or $30 per person for a team of at least 10 people. The fees are flat for all ages. The money covers the shirt, powder paint and event administration.

For anyone who doesn't want to run or walk the entire 5K race route, there is the shorter 1K course. The short course is designed for young children, parents with strollers and walkers to participate. The participation fee for the 1K is $20 for adults and includes the white t-shirt or $10 for youth 12 and under. There is no fee or t-shirt for stroller-riders.

The race is being put on in conjunction with CreekFest, a free family festival that celebrates the arts and out-of-doors in the Cypress Creek Cultural District near Collins Park. This year's CreekFest will feature a fine art and activity tents, craft markets, the Blessing of the Animals, a chalk art show and live music.
