Copperfield Bowling Center to Host Nearly 600 Special Olympics Athletes

From Special Olympics Texas: Over the last eight weeks, more than 590 Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) bowlers and 27 Unified Partners have been training for the 2016 Area 4 Bowling Competition. On Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3, competitors will head to Copperfield Bowling Center (15615 Glen Chase Dr.) to compete for medals and bragging rights. Bowlers 8-11 years old will compete on Dec. 2 from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., while athletes 12 years and older will take over the lanes on Dec. 3 from 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. in an attempt to qualify for the statewide bowling competition, which will be held in Austin in February.

The athletes will compete in one of six divisions based on ability, including: singles bowling, ramp assisted, ramp unassisted, doubles, Unified doubles and teams. The Unified Sports division allows athletes with and without intellectual disabilities to train and compete on the same team. Awards and ribbons will be presented after the competition.
