Former College Park Hoops Star Quentin Grimes Signs With Agent
The guard who led University of Houston to its first Final Four in 37 years, has officially thrown his name into the NBA Draft.

THE WOODLANDS, TX —After declaring for the NBA Draft right after the college basketball season, College Park High and University of Houston alum Quentin Grimes officially took the next step in his basketball career last month when he signed with an agent.
In late May, the 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard, who helped lead Houston to its first Final Four in 37 years, inked with NBA agent David Bauman and the Independent Sports & Entertainment (ISE) basketball division. Bauman also represents Killian Hayes of the Pistons, Reggie Bullock of the Knicks and Cassius Stanley of the Pacers.
Currently, Grimes is projected as a second-round pick in the NBA Draft, which will take place on July 29. In a mock draft published June 1, For The Win had Grimes going to the New Orleans Pelicans with the 13th pick of the second round (43rd overall). In early May, Bleacher Report had Grimes going No. 55 to the Charlotte Hornets.

In his evaluation of Grimes as a potential second-round pick of the Detroit Pistons, Thomas Chavez of PistonPowered.com said there was a lot to like about the former College Park Cavalier, who began his college career at Kansas.
"Grimes projects to be a good shooter from beyond the arc at the NBA level," Chavez wrote. "Combined with his solid defensive abilities, he could be one of the better three-and-D players coming out of the 2021 NBA Draft."

Chavez said there are a few areas in which Grimes needs to improve. Though he's a fine three-point shooter, Grimes has struggled with his efficiency inside the arc. Meanwhile, Grimes' playmaking ability is a question mark, and he averaged just 2.2 assists per game during his three-year college career.
Additionally, Grimes is 21 years old, which is young by most standards. But in an era when one-and-done prospects are all the rage, a player who already competed in three college seasons, skews on the older side.
"Grimes' age has also hurt his draft stock," Chavez wrote. "The 21-year-old guard is on the older end when it comes to NBA Draft prospects. While he is not going to be the oldest prospect on a team's draft board, he is still above the 19-20-year-old range that franchises typically target in the draft."
Grimes' one and only season at Houston was a memorable one. He averaged 17.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, was named the co-American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, made the All-Midwest Region team in the NCAA Tournament and was named Third-Team All-American by the Associated Press.
In high school, Grimes was a five-star recruit and McDonald's All-American, who averaged 29.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game as a senior at College Park. He was named Texas Gatorade Player of the Year in 2018.
In recent weeks, Grimes has posted videos on social media of him working on his skills with local basketball trainer Ben Perkins of Perk Performance.
