Jimmy Buffet Kicks Off 'Son Of A Sailor Tour' In The Woodlands
Jimmy Buffet and the Coral Reefers come to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on June 1 and TicketNetwork has tickets to the show.

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- If you’ve heard of the old adage, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere, then you know Jimmy Buffett. The artist who is best known for his island escape music, especially such hits as “Margaritaville” and “Come Monday,” will be performing on June 1 at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands.
His die-hard fans, who are known as Parrotheads, are sure to be taking to places far away and tropical when Buffet takes the stage. Buffett’s music style is self-described as “drunken Caribbean rock ‘n’ roll,” promoting his Gulf-meets-Western sound and laid back lyrics.

You don’t have to be a Parrothead to enjoy a Buffet performance or subscribe to the “Margaritaville” way of being, but you might turn into one afterward. Experience for yourself on Saturday, June 1, when Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band come to The Woodlands, and kick off the bands "Son of a Sailor Tour."
You can expect to hear songs from The Big 8: “Margaritaville,” “Come Monday,” “Fins,” “Volcano,” “A Pirate Looks at Forty,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Why Don’t We Get Drunk” and “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes.”

Other standard songs performed include “Son of a Sailor” and covers of Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl” and “Southern Cross” by Crosby, Stills and Nash.
This year, the Son of a Sailor Tour makes a nationwide sweep. Buffett is accompanied by his Coral Reefer Band composed of an array of talented musicians.
Michael Utley is on the keyboards, Robert Greenidge on steel drums, Peter Mayer on guitar/vocals, Jim Mayer on bass, Roger Guth on the drums, Mac McaNally on guitar/vocals, Doyle Grisham on steel pedal guitar, John Lovell on the trumpet, Tina Gullickson and Nadirah Shakoor on vocals and Eric Darken on percussion. Darken takes over for beloved percussionist Ralph Macdonald, who toured with Buffett before passing away in 2011.
Jimmy Buffett tried to make it in Nashville in 1969, but his unorthodox music style wasn’t a fit for the town initially. After two failed albums, he traveled to Miami for a gig—which didn’t pan out either.
Thankfully, he headed for a weekend escape to Key West, the town that would ultimately inspire Margaritaville and propel his career into the spotlight that still shines today.
In 1974, Buffett started the Coral Reefer Band and the group recorded its first three albums in Nashville.
In the 1980s, Buffett was known as a great performer, drawing crowds at every concert, and the group became a successful touring band. Today, Parrotheads will tell you not much has changed, in that regard.
