Park in Spring, TX to get New 'Net-Zero' Building

A park in Spring, TX will get a new no impact building.

SPRING, TX — There's going to be a new lean, mean, green building at Carter Park soon. The construction was partially funded with a donation from Bill and Ellen Carter — Carter Park's, 7221 Treaschwig Rd., namesakes.

Crews from the Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner's Office are working on building a 'net-zero' facility at the park.

The building, which will house restrooms and provide shelter for people on the trail, will be completely energy independent. The building will use solar power for electricity, a rain barrel for water service and an onsite wastewater treatment system for sewage.

The new facility will function as a proof of concept, to see if the building can function and if the construction can be done in an affordable manner. If the function and cost are there, the county is thinking of adding more net-zero rest stops along the Spring Creek greenway.
