Spring ISD's Robert Long Appointed to Texas School Safety Center Board

Dr. Robert Long, Principal at Deloras E. Thompson Elementary School in Spring ISD, was appointed to the board by Governor Greg Abbott.

SPRING, TX —Dr. Robert Long III, Principal at Deloras E. Thompson Elementary School in Spring ISD has been appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to serve on the Texas School Safety Center Board. Long, whose term will expire Feb. 1, 2018, is among 10 members who were recently appointed to serve.

The board reports to the Governor, the legislature, the State Board of Education and the Texas Education Agency regarding school safety and security, and advises the center on its function, budget and strategic planning initiatives.

“I am extremely honored and privileged to serve on this board and excited that Spring ISD will have a voice at the table during important conversations regarding school safety issues and policies at the state level,” Long said.

In addition to serving as principal at Thompson Elementary, Long is also an adjunct professor at the University of Houston.

He is current regional director of Raise Your Hand Texas, a member of the Texas Association of School Administration and a Past National board member of Alpha Phi Omega.

Long received a Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary studies in elementary education from Stephen F. Austin State University, Master of Education Administration and Supervision from Sam Houston State University and a Doctor of Education in education administration from Texas A&M University.
