The Woodlands Has Eye On 6A Volleyball Title

The Woodlands and Katy Seven Lakes could face off for 6A crown

GARLAND, TX — The Woodlands Lady Highlanders, who are making their first appearance in the state tourney in three years, are one of four Houston area schools who have their eyes fixed on a state title this week in Garland, Texas.

The 2017 Texas UIL Volleyball Tournament will be held at the Curtis Culwell Center, with 1A and 2A matchups to start the tourney on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

But The Woodlands squad will have to wait until Friday, when they face of against a strongn Lewsville hebron squad, who've been consistently in the tourney over the last two years, and who won the state 6A crown last year.

The winner will face off agains the winner between Katy Seven Lakes and San Antonio O'Connor.

Meanwhile, the tournament has a 1 p.m. start for Houston area teams, beginning in 3A play with East Bernard starting against Callisburg, who lost in the state semifinals to Goliad last year.

Callisburg is bringing a 41-3 record to the state semifinals, against East Bernard.

The winner will face off for the 3A crown against the winner of the Boyd-Goliad contest.

On Friday, 4A, Needville faces Liberty Hill in the 4A semifinals and hope to take on the winner of the Argyle-Geln Rose semis for the state 4A title.

The semifinal winners will all play for their state titles on Saturday, Nov. 18.
