14 Accused Hate Groups Have Received Pandemic Aid: Report

Organizations designated as hate groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center or Anti-Defamation League have benefited from the federal help.

ACROSS AMERICA — About $4.3 million of federal assistance through the Paycheck Protection Program designed to help small businesses stay afloat through the coronavirus pandemic has gone to organizations that have been identified as hate groups, according to data analyzed by NBC News.

Fourteen of the PPP loan recipients have been labeled hate groups either the Southern Poverty Law Center or the Anti-Defamation League, the NBC News report states. They include the American Family Association, the only one of the 14 to receive more than $1 million, and the Federation for American Immigration reform, the group that received the next highest amount: $683,680.

The New Century Foundation, which NBC News reported has long had a mission to "keep the country white," received $51,600.

NBC News identified the 14 groups by crosschecking data released by the Small Business Administration with 73 designated hate groups.
