14 House Republicans Voted Against Juneteenth Holiday
The dissenters — all white men — cited reasons including the holiday's formal name and that federal workers don't need another day off.

President Joe Biden on Thursday signed a bill into law that recognized Juneteenth, or June 19, as the nation's 12th federal holiday.
Juneteenth marks the day Union soldiers brought the news of freedom to enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas — two months after the Confederacy had surrendered.
The bill passed the House with an overwhelming majority Wednesday: 415 representatives voted in favor of the holiday. Only 14 representatives did not. Some objected to the phrase “Independence Day” in the holiday's formal name, while others said federal workers didn't need another paid day off.
