WASHINGTON, DC — Attacks on Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, reached a new level this week following the release of thousands of emails detailing his correspondence with public health experts, members of the Trump administration and even celebrities during the coronavirus pandemic's early days.
The emails, which were requested through the Freedom of Information Act and published by various news outlets this week, drew ire by several conservatives, according to a report by Politico. Some accused Fauci of lying under oath about the origins of COVID-19 and falsely claiming the emails were leaked.
The new round of attacks underscores the growing intensity with which conservatives continue to target Fauci months after President Donald Trump left office.
