WASHINGTON, DC — As vaccinations in the United States slow and the more-transmissible delta variant spreads, President Joe Biden this week suggested going door to door to get more people vaccinated.

In a news briefing Tuesday, Biden said mass vaccination sites across the country are closing down, and now "we need to go to community by community, neighborhood by neighborhood, and oftentimes, door to door — literally knocking on doors — to get help to the remaining people protected from the virus."

The country fell just short of the president's goal to have 70 percent of Americans receive at least one dose of the vaccine by July 4. As of July 5, 67 percent of Americans have gotten either the first shot of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine or the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
