Dems Unveil New Infrastructure Bill; Talks Slow On Biden Plan
The bill, an alternative to the American Jobs Plan announced by President Biden in March, would cost $547 billion over five years.

WASHINGTON, DC — As President Joe Biden and House Republicans work to strike a compromise on the president's $1.7 trillion infrastructure plan, House Democrats unveiled their own plan on Friday, one that would invest $547 billion in the nation's roads, bridges and public transit systems.
The bill, called the INVEST in America Act, would dedicate $343 billion to roads, bridges and safety; $109 billion to public transit systems; and $95 billion to passenger and freight rail, CBS News reported.
Talks have slowed between Biden and Republican negotiators as they continue to butt heads on undoing the 2017 tax cut legislation signed by former President Donald Trump, which Biden has proposed to pay for the plan.

Biden was scheduled to meet with GOP Senator Shelley Moore Capito on Friday about the plan. At a Friday news conference, Press Secretary Jen Psaki said negotiations could extend beyond Monday, despite a soft June 7 deadline.
