Firefighters Battle Huge Fire At Landmark Las Vegas Hotel

Cosmopolitan blaze leaves at least one injured.

One person was hospitalized for smoke inhalation and a second treated at the scene, the Clark County Fire Department said in a Tweet.

Social media pictures showed flames reaching high into the sky and a heavy plume of black smoke wafting through the city and above as guests ran from the hotel.

The department said in a statement that palm trees and cabanas at the pool on the 14th floor went up in flames but did not spread extensively to the building itself.

Firefighters descended on the blaze on the famed Vegas strip at about 12:40 p.m. and had the flames extinguished with an hour.

The Cosmopolitan, a plush casino hotel, sits across from Planet Hollywood and has views of the adjacent Bellagio fountains.
