Global Food Prices Hit 10-Year High Amid Increased Demand
In the United States, food prices still haven't returned to normal following an April 2020 spike, according to a United Nations report.

ACROSS AMERICA — The global cost of food is up nearly 40 percent from last year after prices rose for a 12th consecutive month in May, according to the latest United Nations food price index.
The spike in prices has been fueled by a demand for corn in China, ongoing drought in Brazil and increased global use of vegetable oils, sugar and cereals, according to a CNN report citing the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.
In the United States, food prices still haven't returned to normal following an April 2020 spike, caused by a surge in pandemic-related spending. Overall, food prices in the United States were up 2.4 percent from their peak last April, while fruit and vegetable prices are still up by 3.3 percent.
