Harvey Death Toll Reaches 47; Door-To-Door Search Begins In Houston, Could Boost Death Toll

Rescuers began the grim house-to-house search Thursday to find survivors of Hurricane Harvey, which battered the Texas Gulf Coast, first as a Category 4 hurricane and later as a tropical storm that pounded Houston with more rain in five days than the nation's fourth-largest city typically gets in a year. Thirty-nine people are confirmed dead in the record floods, and the number could go higher as receding waters reveal the full extent of Harvey's wrath. (Patch)

David Clarke, Controversial Milwaukee Sheriff, Resigns

What will he do next? The Stetson-wearing Sheriff's star rose as a virtual surrogate for now-President Donald Trump. Appearances at 2016 campaign events — including a starring role in the Republican Convention — brought Clarke to a national audience. A message received by Patch from Clarke via email states, "Thank you for your interest in Sheriff Clarke's future plans. Wells Fargo Review Finds 1.4 Million More Suspect Accounts
