Here's America's Top Valentine's Day Candy By State

Expressing your love this Valentine's Day will cost you, as Americans are predicted to shell out a whopping $1.8 billion on sweets for the holiday in 2019. According to the National Retail Federation, candy sales are expected to top jewelry and other popular traditional purchases.

After examining 11 years worth of sales data, Candy Store and has ranked America's top three favorite Valentine's Day candies by state. While conversation hearts have climbed the rankings over the past decade, they are no match for heart-shaped boxes of chocolate, which reign supreme in the most states. Not to mention, in 2019 Sweethearts conversation hearts are predicted to take an 80% hit in sales as their biggest distributor, Necco, closed its doors last year.

Fifty-eight million pounds of chocolate are purchased around the Valentine's holiday, while 43% of people revealed that they are buying the sweets for themselves. With that said, M&M's have made it into more top-three slots across America than previously in 2017, while cupid corn has noticeably fallen off. Some unique outliers like Wild Berry Skittles and cinnamon bears have made it into the rankings as well. See what sweets top your state's rankings, the results may shock you.
