McConnell Vows To Block Voting Legislation; Rejects Compromise
McConnell's promise all but guarantees that Republicans will filibuster the bill that would overrule state laws restricting early voting.

WASHINGTON, DC — Federal legislation that would overrule state laws aimed at restricting early and mail-in voting will likely face a significant roadblock later this month after Senate Republicans, led by Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, vowed to keep the legislation from advancing.
Majority Leader Chuck Schumer plans to send the bill, also known as the For The People Act, to the floor Tuesday. McConnell's vow all but guarantees that Republicans will filibuster the bill.
In promising to block the bill Thursday, McConnell also rejected a compromise drafted by Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, who attempted to move the legislation forward by incorporating several GOP ideas into the bill.
