WASHINGTON, DC — The White House on Saturday is mourning the death of Champ, first dog and cherished companion of President Joe Biden and his family.

Champ, the Bidens' 13-year-old German Shepherd, died "peacefully at home," according to the Bidens' statement.

"In our most joyful moments and in our most grief-stricken days, he was there with us, sensitive to our every unspoken feeling and emotion," the statement read. "We love our sweet, good boy and will miss him always."

The Biden family has another dog, Major, who recently received more training to help him become more acquainted with living in the White House, CBS News reported.
