Patch Pet Of The Week: Shelby

Meet Shelby (aka Shell Shell), one of the strongest pups around!

Shelby is a 6-year-old black Doberman Pinscher from Georgia. Unfortunately, Shelby was diagnosed with inoperable Fibrosarcoma mouth cancer before she was 6. Even though she is fighting cancer, she is still her active, playful self! She loves to go everywhere her mom goes and has to actually be touching her. So cute.

First day home

Shelby was only 8 weeks old when she was brought home. Her owner's 2-year-old granddaughter was the one who picked Shelby out. Out of the large litter they were looking at, Shelby was the one who was interested in their granddaughter. Her family traveled to another state to get Shelby and she was so good during the car ride!

Favorite treat

She's a lot like us — her favorite snack is cookies!

Weirdest thing she ever ate

After her mom baked a delicious birthday cake for her husband, she left it on the counter to cool down. Bad decision! When she came back, one of the layers of the cake was gone with only a few crumbs on the floor remaining. Shelby was rolled up in a tight ball on her pillow with a guilty look on her face and still licking her lips. We can't say we blame you, Shelby.

Likes

Her favorite thing is to be near her mother and if they are playing together, she is twice as happy. So sweet.

Dislikes

She is a little fussy about her treats. If she doesn't like the treat that's being offered to her, she just politely walks away.

Funniest habit

She will sit by the door where she knows her treats are until she gets some.

Favorite Toy

Her favorite toys are her frisbees for outdoor play time. She also loves her tennis ball and DNA rubber toy.

"When Shelby was first diagnosed, I made her a bucket list and when we complete items off of her list I add more."

Shelby is fighting cancer, and she wasn't given a time frame with her diagnosis. So, her mom is trying to allow her to live her best life by making a bucket list. She is getting holistic treatments along with a chemo pill regiment. Let's hope that Shelby has the best life possible, and that her cancer slows down a bit! Either way, Shelby sounds like a really strong dog and we are rooting for her.
