After over a year of "deplorables," Twitter disputes and theories surrounding the Zodiac Killer, the 2016 election blunders aren't over yet.

The 2016 presidential election has been anything but "low energy." It's been well over a year since both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump announced their bids for the nation's top office, and the journey to this day has been littered with snarky soundbites, scandals and Twitter beefs.

The controversy surrounding both candidates and the generally unconventional nature of this election is expected to continue through Election Day — and night.

3 p.m. EST : Clinton and Trump hit the polls this morning in New York City, Trump receiving boos from onlookers, one even yelling, "you're gonna lose," as the presidential hopeful passed the crowd with his wife, Melania.

The internet and Twitter-sphere took to their keyboards after catching this picture of Trump appearing to glance over at his wife as she voted.

The Clinton campaign, on the other hand, released a spoof video urging voters not to "stand still" but to vote, with Bon Jovi making an appearance.

Meanwhile, supporters in her hometown started this flash mob to celebrate election day.

Both candidates cast their votes amidst complaints of long lines and broken ballot scanners. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio took to Twitter in a seven-tweet address to voters and state officials.

An Atlanta-area mayor Jefferson Riley also took to social media to weigh in on the election. His "joke," which has since been deleted, was not well recepted by all constituents.
