WASHINGTON, DC — The United States is unlikely to enter lockdown in order to combat a highly contagious new coronavirus variant, President Joe Biden said on Friday; however, when asked, the president also hesitated to rule out the possibility, according to a Newsweek report.

At a news conference, Biden said some parts of the country could be "very hurt" by the new variant and once again urged unvaccinated Americans to roll up their sleeves.

"People getting seriously ill and being hospitalized due to COVID-19 are those that have not been fully vaccinated. The new variant will leave unvaccinated people even more vulnerable than they are," Biden said.
