When Is The Newest iPhone Coming Out?

Here's everything we know about Apple's rumored 10th-anniversary iPhone release.

This September marks the 10th anniversary of the very first iPhone release. So while Apple always likes to keep us on our toes before it announces new product releases each September, this time around has been filled with more excitement than usual — particularly because of rumors surrounding a special 10th-anniversary iPhone.

A recent iOS code leak suggests that in addition to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7S (which will include your typical updates like faster processors), a third, premium iPhone will also be released next month. Many people have been referring to this third phone as the iPhone 8, while others are calling it the iPhone X, though Apple has neither confirmed nor denied that such a phone is even in the works.

However, anonymous sources said to be in the know recently corroborated this rumor and confirmed certain features that this alleged update will include.

So while there's no way to know for sure that this speculation is true, we at least have a few ideas of what we might be able to expect from Tim Cook's latest tech miracle:

#1. A Bigger Screen

According to these anonymous insiders, this mysterious new product's screen will take up almost the entire front of the phone, thanks to thinner bezels and a virtual home button, Bloomberg reports.

#2. Facial Recognition

Perhaps the coolest feature of this new iPhone is its facial recognition technology, which will apparently be a new way for you to unlock your device and authenticate purchases. This state-of-the-art technology has never before been implemented on smartphones.

#3. A New Way To Charge

Rumor has it that you'll be able to charge the new iPhone by way of magnetic induction (which is how the Apple Watch currently charges), reports the New York Times. Will this make all of our old Apple chargers obsolete? Let's hope not.

#4. Better Cameras

While the current iPhone already has two rear cameras, an alleged new vertically stacked camera configuration on this model is said to be ideal for augmented reality apps.

#5. A 4-Figure Price Tag

This cutting-edge iPhone is said to come at a cost — to the tune of about $1,000, according to several reports. While the current iPhone starts at $649, jumping up even a few hundred dollars still feels like a steep incline.

Note: While Apple has not confirmed a date for when it will announce its latest releases, one French phone carrier has taken an educated guess that Sept. 12 is the big day. Whether or not this is accurate, we'll have to wait and see.
