White Supremacists Plan More Rallies, Anti-Fascists Push Back: Charlottesville Aftermath

We're keeping tabs on all the neo-Nazi activity, anti-fascist resistance and clashes over Confederate relics across America this week.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — The nation's small but newly invigorated contingent of literal neo-Nazis rocketed into the public awareness last weekend when they descended on Charlottesville with torches and swastikas and, in some cases, weapons of war. They had come to defend a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in a downtown park. But their message for America was much larger than that: The white-power movement is alive and well, they were saying, and emboldened enough to show its face after years in hiding — Klan hood optional.

They're not done fighting yet. And neither is the anti-fascist counter-movement that met them in Charlottesville.

Scroll down for a list of rallies and other events being planned by activists on both sides in the coming weeks and months.

In almost all these skirmishes, interestingly, the central point of contention has taken the form of a Confederate statue or relic. But again, the disagreement is larger than that: Either you're nostalgic for a time when white people legally raped and murdered and enslaved black people in America, or you're not.
