If you have a garden or any outdoor space, now is the perfect time to make use of it. Planting flowers, greenery and veggies is great, but to maximize the enjoyment of your outdoor space, you'll want to add some tasteful decor.

Not sure where to get started? Not to worry: Here are five fresh ways to decorate your garden.

1. Light it up.

With the right lights, you can enjoy outdoor space even after the sun goes down. Solar-powered string lights are a fantastic option that frees you from having to deal with extension cords and messy wires.

Brightech makes a 27-foot strand of solar LED globe lights that create a great ambiance while illuminating the space. The waterproof, shatterproof bulbs are powered by the rechargeable solar battery, have a convenient on-off switch and will last up to 20,000 hours.

If you have a walkway going through your garden or a path outdoors leading to it, solar-powered stake lights are an attractive and safety-boosting option. Sogrand makes a set of eight stake lights that can withstand a wide range of weather conditions, including rain, snow, wind, and hot or cold temperatures.

These solar-powered stake lights can work continuously for eight to 10 hours when fully charged.

If you already have outdoor lighting in place and just want some extra twinkle, decorative solar lights are what you want. SANJICHA makes a weatherproof 72-foot strand with eight different lighting modes.

These twinkle lights don't provide much in the way of illumination, but they're an aesthetically pleasing addition to most any garden.

2. Bring in some birds.

If you have a vegetable garden, you might not want to invite any feathered friends in unless your goods are covered. But for a flower garden or neutral outdoor space, birds are a wild and wonderful addition.

To attract regular backyard birds, any standard feeder will do. We like this hunter green feeder from the Brome Store because it's easy to hang, squirrel-proof and well-ventilated to keep the seeds fresh so birds continue to visit.

If you want to attract hummingbirds in particular (which are lovely!), you'll need a bottle feeder to fill with nectar. We like this blue glass feeder from ShinyArt that attracts hummingbirds and doubles as decor all on its own.

Ready-to-use hummingbird nectar can be purchased separately. According to the Audubon Society, it's best to use a variety without red coloring, as the dye could prove harmful to birds.

And, of course, any time you feed birds, you should offer a clean water source nearby. Any regularly refreshed birdbath will do, and the choice is yours whether to stick to something simple and understated or go with an elegant option such as this hand-painted glass flower birdbath from the Peaktop Store.

3. Raise a flag.

A garden flag is a small but meaningful addition that adds charm and character. This 34.3-inch-tall flag stand holds any garden-size flag up to 13 inches (sold separately).

Nab an American flag, a welcome flag or even a custom garden flag featuring your very own photo or design.

4. Add some whimsical charm.

Colorful gnomes and fairy decor would not for everyone, but most people will appreciate a subtle hint of whimsy in the garden. We like this Bits and Pieces set that allows you to put a funny face on a tree or fence.

The "tree hugger" face set is made of durable polyresin and looks best when the tree it's applied to is at least 8 inches wide.

Another understated but whimsical addition to your garden is an insect house. Lulu Home makes a cute yet functional house-shaped shelter designed to attract bees and insects to your garden. Each grid of the insect hotel (pictured below) serves to provide a happy habitat for winged creatures.

5. Upgrade your planters.

If your current planters are faded and chipping, now's a great time to replace them with something fresh. Amazon has hundreds of outdoor planters to suit every aesthetic. Ceramic planters (such as the set from Gifts & Decor pictured below) can add a tasteful pop of color to any sunny spot.

For a more modern, elegant look, add some taller, monochromatic planters such as the La Jolie Muse Store flower pots pictured below.

These particular planters are great because they can be used outdoors and look nice indoors if you want to bring your greenery in when the seasons change. If you use them inside, just make sure to have a saucer or tray (sold separately), as each pot has drainage holes to prevent overwatering.
