China Condemns U.S. Over Hong Kong. That Won’t Stop Trade Talks.

A New York Times analysis says legislation signed by Trump poses a challenge to Beijing's rule, but China has bigger problems.

China vented on Thursday after President Trump signed new human rights legislation covering the protest-wracked city of Hong Kong, The New York Times reported Friday in an analysis piece that explained China has bigger problems than trade with the United States.

China denounced the new law as illegal interference in its own affairs, the Times reported, adding the Chinese government summoned the American ambassador for the second time in a week. It vowed retaliation. The threats sounded severe. They also sounded empty.
