Electoral College Confirms Joe Biden Win In Presidential Election

Electors from all 50 states and the District of Columbia met Monday to cast their votes, which will be formally counted Jan. 6.

WASHINGTON, DC — The Electoral College has voted to confirm President-elect Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election, solidifying the former vice president as the country's 46th president come Jan. 20.

Electors from all 50 states and the District of Columbia met Monday to cast their votes, which remain unofficial until Congress formally counts them Jan. 6.

Biden received 306 votes to President Donald Trump's 232 by 7 p.m., according to a tally from The Washington Post. The four electors from Hawaii, all of which went for Biden, cast the final votes of the day.

The number needed to win the presidency is 270.

States' electors met individually and at various times throughout the day on Monday. The Washington Post has an interactive map that tracked the votes.

Biden is expected to end up with 306 electoral votes, with Trump remaining at 232. Electors in all states where the Trump campaign has challenged Biden's win, the key battleground states, have all voted for Biden, Bloomberg and others have reported.

Legal challenges by Trump to overturn the general election results in key battleground states have been unsuccessful, as the president continues to make claims — with no supporting evidence — that the Nov. 3 election was fraudulent.

Biden's win was clinched with narrow Nov. 3 victories in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
