WASHINGTON, D.C. — The tax-writing committee of the House filed a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department for access to President Donald Trump's tax returns, reports The New York Times.

While Steven Mnuchin had dismissed the Democrats' previous attempts to gain access, the House, in Tuesday's filing, argued that the administration’s defiance of its request is “an extraordinary attack on the authority of Congress to obtain information needed to conduct oversight of Treasury, the I.R.S., and the tax laws on behalf of the American people.”
