John Kelly Says Trump Was 'Uninformed' On Immigration: Report

In a legislative discussion, the White House chief of staff said some of Trump's key campaign promises won't happen.

WASHINGTON, DC — White House Chief of Staff John Kelly said the president was "uninformed" about immigration policy during the campaign, The Washington Post reported Wednesday. At a closed-door meeting with lawmakers, Kelly said that several of the president's signature campaign promises on the issue will not be fulfilled, according to the report.

Kelly said that there will not be a wall from coast to coast across the U.S.-Mexican border, despite Trump's frequent pledges, reporter Ed O'Keefe found. In some places on the border, drone surveillance and security forces will be used in place of a physical barrier, and only some parts — not all — of the wall will be concrete. Kelly also said that Mexico will not be paying for the wall, one of Trump's most repeated (and much criticized) promises regarding border security, according to the report.

Kelly's remarks came in a meeting with Democratic lawmakers to discuss ongoing negotiations over immigration policy. O'Keefe reported that little progress was made in the discussion.

McMaster reportedly said Trump had the intelligence of a kindergartener in November. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called the president a "moron" according to a report in October.
