John Oliver Tackles Border Patrol — And Calls Linus A Drug Dealer

Border Patrol agents don't just chase illegal immigrants and drug traffickers, John Oliver explains.

John Oliver spent Sunday's episode of "Last Week Tonight" discussing U.S. Border Patrol, in the wake of President Trump's executive order calling for 5,000 more agents to be added to the ranks of the already 20,000 patrolling the border.

Throwing in a hilarious aside in which he accused Linus of "Peanuts" fame of being a drug dealer, Oliver explained the work the Border Patrol does, which isn't all about detaining Mexicans and drug smugglers. He noted that while the number of illegal Mexican immigrants nabbed at the border has dropped, more and more people fleeing Central America who are seeking asylum attempt to cross.

He showed a news clip of a family from Central America crossing the borer and willingly meeting Border Patrol agents, who give them blankets and other help. (For more national political news, sign up for the free White House Patch email newsletter.)

"It is moments like that there that show how difficult the job of Border Patrol agent can be," Oliver says. "In that moment they are delivering aid and processing migrants, but later that same day they may be chasing down drug traffickers."
