Kellyanne Conway: 'The President Is Not Discussing Firing Bob Mueller'

George Stephanopoulus pressed Kellyanne Conway about the "red line" President Trump threatened regarding Robert Mueller's Russia probe.

Kellyanne Conway, the counselor to President Trump, appeared on ABC's "This Week" with George Stephanopoulus on Sunday, where she was questioned on a wide range of issues, including Trump's recently announced ban on transgender military members and the ongoing investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

In a July interview with the New York Times, Trump said that if Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who was appointed by the Justice Department to lead an investigation into the Russia affair, began to investigate his personal finances, he would be crossing a "red line." Recent reports indicate that Mueller has begun to do just that, so with that in mind, Stephanopoulus asked Conway if the president commits to "not firing Mueller."

"The president has not even discussed that," Conway answered. "The president is not discussing firing Bob Mueller." Pressed further, she said the White House is "complying and cooperating" with the special counsel. When Stephanopoulus told Conway that isn't what he had asked, she said she is not the president's lawyer and pivoted to talking about Trump's popularity in West Virginia.
