Sarah Huckabee Sanders On 'The View': Press Secretary Faces Tough Questions

The White House press secretary defended President Trump on the talk show.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee appeared on ABC daytime talk show "The View" Wednesday, taking questions from a relatively hostile panel, which asked her to defend some of President Trump's more controversial statements.

During a discussion about Trump's repeated insults of the media, co-host Joy Behar asked, "The media is not supposed to report on the fact that 95 percent of what he says is a lie?"

Sanders responded: "The problem with that, Joy, is you are doing exactly what we're talking about and pushing a false narrative. Ninety-five percent of what the president says is not a lie."

Behar replied, "And you, I feel for you, I feel sorry for you that you have to go out and defend those lies every day." (For more national political news, sign up for the free White House Patch email newsletter.)

Fellow co-host Whoopi Goldberg brought up the Trump-supported "birther" movement and asked where was President Obama born, and is he an American citizen? The press secretary laughed, before saying, "I think this has been pretty well addressed." Goldberg persisted, saying, "That's a narrative that went on forever, and he didn't clear it up until after he was in office."
