Members of the House Judiciary Committee began debating two articles of impeachment Thursday against President Trump, considering amendments before voting whether to recommend that the full House approve the charges and send them to the Senate for a trial.

Democrats handily defeated an amendment by Republicans on the committee to kill one of the articles of impeachment against President Trump after a two-hour debate over the accusation that the president abused his power by inviting foreign interference in the 2020 election, The New York Times reported.

The articles as written accuse Trump of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress and follow a two-and-a-half-month inquiry into efforts to pressure Ukraine to announce investigations of former vice-president Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
