TAMPA, FL — With just five days to go before the election, President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden have turned their attention to Florida on Thursday, a state essential to Trump's chances for another term.

Both will maintain their standard campaign approaches when visiting the Sunshine State —Trump with a signature rally packed with thousands of supporters, and Biden with a socially distanced drive-in gathering.

The candidates have rarely crossed paths on the campaign trail. And as the country nears Election Day, there's little evidence to show Trump gaining ground on Biden's lead in many crucial states.

An NBC/Marist poll released Thursday showed Biden holding a 4-point edge over the president among likely voters in Florida, with only 2 percent of respondents saying they were undecided. The poll represents a gain for Biden over a similar poll conducted in September that had both candidates tied.

Trump was also slated to visit North Carolina on Thursday, but abruptly postponed the rally just hours before taking the stage. Trump's campaign cited a Hurricane Zeta-related wind advisory as the reason for postponing the event, which will now be held early next week.

The trip to Fayetteville would have been Trump's third trip to North Carolina in a bid to energize support in the span of eight days.

Trump spent Wednesday in Arizona, where relaxed rules on social distancing made staging big rallies easier. Thousands gathered in close proximity without wearing masks — a trend that was expected to continue through more than a dozen events in the final sprint to Election Day.

Biden, meanwhile, heads later in the week to three more states Trump won in 2016: Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan, where he’ll hold a joint Saturday rally with former President Barack Obama.

Nearly 80 million Americans have already cast their votes, according to the U.S. Elections Project. Meanwhile, battles continue over absentee ballot extensions.

A pair of decisions by the Supreme Court on Wednesday will at least temporarily let election officials in two key battleground states, Pennsylvania and North Carolina, accept absentee ballots for several days after Election Day, The New York Times reported.
