WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Trump plans to nominate Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan to replace Jon Huntsman Jr. as ambassador to Russia, The New York Times reports.

While Sullivan has already once been confirmed by the Senate, he will face a new hearing should the president follow through with his appointment.

The ambassadorship is a prestigious position, but also a challenging one, particularly in light of the Mueller investigation into Trump's ties with Russia, which has shadowed the president since 2016. As with a good number of Trump's nominations, Sullivan comes with little diplomatic experience involving Moscow, having been a senior lawyer in other wings of the government.
