Trump Orders U.S. Airstrike In Baghdad, Killing Senior Iranian

BREAKING: The airstrikes come after the president blamed Iran for an attack on the U.S. Embassy compound in Iraq. Iraqis also reported dead.

The U.S. military launched airstrikes in Iraq that killed revered Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani, Defense Secretary Mark Esper confirmed Thursday, according to The Washington Post and other news outlets.

From the Post:

"Esper said Thursday night that Soleimani was "actively developing plans" to attack US troops and diplomats. The killing of a senior figure linked to Tehran’s support for foreign proxy groups is certain to heighten tensions between the United States and Iran."
