Trump Targets Legal Immigrants Who Use Food Stamps: Report
A new Trump administration rule targets legal immigrants who rely on public programs, such as food stamps and subsidized housing.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A new Trump administration rule will target legal immigrants who rely on food stamps, government-subsidized housing and other public programs, as part of a larger move to slow immigration to the United States, reports the New York Times.
Poor immigrants will be impacted the most, as they will be pushed to choose between remaining in the country legally and receiving aid from the government. The Times notes that the rule, known as the public charge rule, will unlikely affect immigrants with green cards, as the underlying motive for the new regulation is to single out those who “depend on public resources to meet their needs.”
The rule, which will go into effect in 60 days, has been opposed by immigration advocates, who plan to sue the administration.
