New York Times projections show that as of Saturday afternoon, Biden had 279 electoral votes to President Donald Trump's 214, with four states withholding final tallies. The Associated Press's less conservative estimate gives Biden 290 with the inclusion of Arizona's 11 votes.
Ahead of Biden's victory speech, several former U.S. presidents, including Barack Obama, under whom Biden served as vice president, congratulated Harris and Biden on their win.
Obama said he is confident the pair will "do the job with the best interests of every American at heart, whether or not he had their vote."
