Watch John Oliver On Trump Vs. Protesting NFL Players
The "Last Week Tonight" host entered the debate ignited by Trump over the weekend.

Thanks to his show airing Sunday nights, John Oliver became the first late-night comedian to chime in on President Trump's war of words with protesting professional athletes, hours after NFL games across the country were talked about more for how players responded to the national anthem than the on-field action.
"The president of the United States took time out, it is worth noting, while 3 million American citizens in Puerto Rico are without power, to call Colin Kaepernick a son of a bitch," Oliver said, referring to the former San Francisco quarterback who took a knee during the anthem last year to protest police violence against blacks.
"Kaepernick's own mother magnificently responding, I guess that makes me a proud bitch." (For more national political news, sign up for the free White House Patch email newsletter.)

Oliver continued, "When you have lost the moral high ground to Roger f-----g Goodell, something is horribly wrong," referencing the embattled NFL commissioner.
