Replay: Sarah Sanders Delivers White House Press Briefing
Sanders was tasked with defending some of the president's recent tweets.
WASHINGTON, DC — White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended President Trump's tweet Tuesday afternoon that took credit for the fact that zero people died in U.S. commercial flights in 2017.
"The president has raised the bar for aviation safety and security," she said, citing Trump's tweet saying that he has been "very strict on Commercial Aviation."
However, it's not clear what Trump could reasonably claim credit for. Federal Aviation Administration Director Michael P. Huerta was appointed under President Obama. Trump's proposal to privatize air traffic control has not been implemented. And no one was killed in an American commercial airline flight in the previous eight years.

Sanders also expressed the administration's support for the recent protests in Iran The regime has seen a large outpouring of opposition to its authoritarian leadership in the last week. President Trump and the press secretary both welcomed the protests on Twitter.
Though she would not explicitly call for regime change in Iran, Sanders said the administration hoped the leadership in the country would grant fundamental rights to its citizens and stop providing support to terrorist groups.

Sanders was also asked about Trump's call on Twitter for a former aide of Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin, to be in jail. Sanders largely dodged the question, saying any inquiries about specific investigations should be directed to the Department of Justice.
