Watch: Steve Bannon Disagrees With Trump's DACA Decision, Criticizes Catholic Church

Charlie Rose interviewed Steve Bannon for Sunday's edition of "60 Minutes."

In clips shared by CBS's "60 Minutes" in advance of Sunday night's airing of Steve Bannon's first major interview since he stepped down from the Trump administration, the former White House chief strategist disagreed with the administration's decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and criticized the Catholic church for its support of DACA.

"I don't agree with that DACA decision, but I understand how he struggled with it," Bannon said of President Trump. "I understand how he's giving the possibility of a legislative thing, and he even said last night in a tweet that he would rethink it. Trust me, the guys on the far right, the guys on the conservative side are not happy with this."

Asked by interviewer Charlie Rose about Cardinal Timothy Dolan and other church officials' condemnation of Trump's decision, Bannon, a Catholic, said, "The Catholic church has been terrible about this. The bishops have been terrible about this. By the way, you know why? Because unable to come to terms with the problems in the church, they need illegal aliens. They need illegal aliens to fill the churches. It's obvious on the face of it." (For more national political news, sign up for the free White House Patch email newsletter.)
