White House Directs Strikes On Iranian Interests In Syria, Iraq

Officials say the strikes were in retaliation for an attack that left an American contractor dead.

MAR-A-LAGO, FL —Trump administration officials announced on Sunday that air strikes had been conducted against five military facilities in Iraq and Syria. The facilities are all believed to be backed by Iranian forces, the officials said.

The strikes were said to be in retaliation for an attack that left an American contractor dead.

Secretary of State mike Pompeo said that he and Defense Secretary Mark Esper "came to Florida to brief the president on activities that have taken place in the Middle East over the last 72 hours.

Esper said more attacks are possible.

The attacks came after a militia attack on Friday killed an American defense contractor and injured four American troops.
