Producer/Director - Highlights of Lovell’s career include two feature documentaries that were theatrically released and broadcast nationwide on PBS. Riding the Rails, which played on American Experience, is the story of teenagers on the road during the Great Depression; it won the Peabody Award, LA Film Critics Award for Best Documentary, the DGA Award for Best Director, and was acquired by MoMA for their permanent collection. The Good Soldier, broadcast on the Bill Moyers Journal, is the story of five veterans from different wars – WW II, Vietnam, the 1st Gulf War, and Iraq – recounting their stories of combat and their own role in killing and how it changed them to become men working for peace. The film won the Emmy for Outstanding Long-form Historical Programming, the Maysles Award for Excellence, and the Hearts and Minds Award.
