5 Nonprofits With Utah Ties That Could Really Use Your Support
It may be hard to donate time and money while stuck at home and facing hardship. But serving can be a boon, and charities still need help.

As many people are struggling to make ends meet in these unprecedented times, some feel the strain more intensely than others. And others who normally contribute to charitable causes are finding themselves in a situation of swiftly shifting priorities while charitable giving budgets run dry.
Of course, that also means for those who are finding their financial situation unchanged by the pandemic, the need for giving couldn't be greater, especially to organizations that are helping to fill critical needs within the community and serving vulnerable populations around the world.
If you happen to find yourself in fortunate circumstances and are looking for avenues to direct your bounty to where it's most needed, please consider learning about the following organizations and how you can lend a helping hand or, even better, make a financial contribution. Many of the descriptions below are taken from the respective organization's website.

"We provide humanitarian aid to refugees, both at home and abroad. No politics. Simply Humanitarian."
Millions of refugees live in crowded camps where social distancing is impossible and where there is little if any access to clean water and soap. Access to healthcare was limited, to begin with, so COVID-19 prevention is paramount. In order to help refugees stay healthy and prevent the virus from running rampant in their camps, we are now focusing on getting them hygiene supplies as quickly as possible.

Utah Food Bank
With children at home and countless adults out of work, Utah Food Bank is seeing the need for assistance significantly increase at all program and partner agency sites.
Mobile Pantries have proven to be a very efficient and effective tool in responding to the sharp increase in need across the state. We have increased our deliveries by 44% and have seen a 161% increase in households served in March compared to March of last year. We will continue to expand distribution through this program further in the coming weeks and months. In fact, at the end of April we did an emergency food distribution at the Maverik Center serving more than 5,000 families, the largest distribution we have ever done.

Neighborhood House
Neighborhood House provides quality preschool, youth programs, and adult care in the Salt Lake Valley based on each client’s ability to pay.
As the worldwide spread of COVID-19 makes its way through our neighborhoods, we want to ensure the families we serve, our community members, our employees, and their families have the support they need during this unprecedented time.

The Inn Between
We provide a home environment that enables adults experiencing homelessness to gain access to professional hospice care from State-licensed hospice agencies; undergo life-saving medical treatment; stabilize in preparation for surgery; or recuperate from serious illness, injury, or surgery. Click the video for a quick look at the work we do.
The INN Between is working to ensure the safety of our home during the COVID-19 outbreak. Our mission is to end the tragic history of vulnerable people dying on the streets of our community by providing a supportive and safe haven for those who have nowhere to live during a medical crisis.
Like many nonprofits, The INN Between is suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic, and we need your help to continue caring for our terminally ill and medically frail residents. The best way to help is to make a donation online, which allows us to purchase the supplies we need and to take care of our staff, many of whom cannot work from home.

Local Press Nonprofit, The Salt Lake Tribune
Salt Lake City's newspaper of record, fairly recently equipped with nonprofit status, has provided coverage of COVID-19 related news for free to the public regardless if readers have a subscription or not. In this age of paywalls, that's a big deal.
Many of the articles have this at the top: "The Salt Lake Tribune is providing readers free access to critical local stories about the coronavirus during this time of heightened concern. To support journalism like this, please consider donating or become a subscriber."

Rescue Mission of Salt Lake
Amid a pandemic and natural disaster, the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake is still HOME to the homeless. [ Last year's] earthquake caused damage to our building, forcing us to relocate our emergency services and programs to a nearby facility-a particularly difficult challenge to weather given the current health crisis. We continue to serve those in need, and your support remains the most important piece of our work.
Of course, there are so many worthy and needful organizations right now throughout our community, the state, and around the world. But these organizations with Utah ties or which serve Utahns are a good place to start and will make fine use of your donation should you be fortunate enough to be able to give one.
