(SALT LAKE CITY, Utah)---Adrian Orme plainly says what most of us think - but probably wouldn’t admit - about leaving a secure career to go into business for oneself. Maybe it’s because a lot of us don’t have the gumption to do it ourselves. “It takes guts to be an entrepreneur. It takes guts to try something new, to take a risk, to put your family’s livelihood on the line and to have the responsibility to bring other people onto your team and realize that they are looking to this business to be the livelihood for their families, as well,” Orme said. “No one ever makes any progress in life letting fear cripple them.” To be sure, the 41-year-old Orme is making a sharp turn in leaving a corporate career, but he’s chosen to follow his new path with a burgeoning company that has tripled in size over the past 14 years. And – it should come as no surprise – Orme is also being a trailblazer. Recently, he launched operations as the first Utah franchisee of Floor Coverings International, whose Design Associates visit customers’ homes in a Mobile Flooring Showroom stocked with thousands of flooring samples from top manufacturers. “Up to this point, I had worked to build something for someone else,” the South Jordan resident said. “Now I’m excited to seize the opportunity to build something for myself while serving homeowners in the state of Utah.”

Orme spent more than 18 years with Sandy-based Pedersen Worldwide – parent company of the Del Sol and Cariloha retail brands – where he was Vice President of Distribution. What started as a five-month internship opportunity with Del Sol in St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands after Orme graduated from the University of Utah, turned into Orme returning to the corporate offices to take over Del Sol’s store operations and new owner training on systems and inventory management while he was still a fresh-faced, recent college grad. Eventually, Orme oversaw a team of more than 45 employees and developed distribution operations that supported more than $50 million in annual sales revenue. But after 18 years, Orme felt compelled to seek new opportunities, inspired by the motivational business fable and New York Times business bestseller, “Who Moved My Cheese?” Said Orme: “I decided I wasn’t going to wait until there was no cheese to put on my running shoes, so I started looking.”

In Floor Coverings International, Orme found a company that has tripled in size since 2005 by putting a laser focus on consumer buying habits and expressed desires, its impressive operating model, growth ability, marketing, advertising and merchandising. Floor Coverings International further separates itself from the competition through its customer experience, made up of several simple and integrated steps that exceed customers’ expectations. Orme said he found numerous advantages with Floor Coverings International that made it stand out from other franchise opportunities. Among them:

Floor Coverings International Salt Lake South Valley serves all of Salt Lake City, as well as outlying areas. To say Orme is excited about his new opportunity would be an understatement. “I was blessed with an opportunity early in my career to get experience in the corporate world and be in high-level management,” Orme said. “And that gave me the experience and confidence to be the entrepreneur I’ve always wanted to be.”
