Brent Beckley on Staying Fit During Vacation

It can be challenging to workout while you're on vacation. Here are a few ways you can stay fit during your next vacation.

Vacation is a time where you can de-stress and relax, but, that doesn’t mean you have to skip your workouts! Working out on vacation can be difficult, but it is possible. There are many different ways to get in a simple workout; you might just have to get a little creative.

Be Realistic: Keep in mind that you might not get that regular workout routine in while on vacation. Set realistic fitness goals before you leave and aim to complete at least half of your regular routine. Also, keep in mind where you’ll be working out and plan ahead. Research what the weather will be like and what type of fitness equipment your accommodation offers.

  • Travel by Foot: An easy way to get in physical activity is by walking instead of driving around the city your visiting. You’ll be able to achieve your step goal and truly learn more about the place your visiting. Walking around a new city allows you to completely immerse yourself in the culture.
  • Use the Pool: If you’re going somewhere warm or staying in a hotel with a pool, use it as an opportunity to exercise in a fun way! Jump in the pool and do some aqua walking / jogging for 10-minute intervals. You’ll stay cool while burning calories.
  • Try Something Different: Use your vacation as a time to try out new or unique workout routines. Instead of using the treadmill, take surfing lessons, go on a hike, kayak, or do some yoga by the pool. Finding unique ways to workout keeps you interested and allows you to experience the place you're visiting in a new way.
  • Fitness Apps: With today’s technology there are plenty of options for working out on the go. You can easily find a fitness app with guided workouts that fit your personal wellness goals. Handy apps also make it easy to take your workouts anywhere; you can get fit on the beach, by the pool, or in your hotel room.

Working out on the go is easier than you think! Just remember to keep it simple and set realistic expectations.
