Brent Beckley on Weekend Getaways in Utah

We all need a break every now and then. Brent Beckley shares a few weekend getaways in Utah to check out.

Sometimes it’s hard to take a break and spend time on vacation. All the hassle of organizing and traveling to your destination is a daunting task. If you need a vacation but don’t want to go out of the state, check out these getaways in Utah.

Salt Lake City: Serving as Utah’s capital, this city offers plenty to do for all members of the family. Salt Lake City sits in a mountain valley at an elevation of 4,300 feet above sea level. This means there are plenty of options for outdoor activity! 45 minutes from the airport you’ll find four world renowned ski resorts perfect for a winter adventure. If snowboarding or skiing isn’t for you hike, bike, climb, or camp in the surrounding canyons east of the city. To the west of the city you’ll find Great Salty Lake. In this area you’ll be able to check out the pristine waters of the like while swimming or boating.

Bear Lake: If you want to experience sun and sand without the hassle of a long car ride or flight, check out Bear Lake. This state park includes a developed marina with boat ramps and slips. Take your boat out and fish with the whole family or just relax along the miles of beaches. You can also camp or stay in one of the surrounding resorts or condos. Bear Lake is 145 miles northeast of Salt Lake City and runs into its neighboring state, Idaho.

Park City: You might only think of Park City as a winter destination, but there is plenty to do year round. There are plenty of delicious restaurants to try, art galleries to explore, and fantastic options if you’re in the mood to shop. You can also hike in the areas surrounding the city, with more than 400 miles of trails to explore. Park City was also an Olympic host and you can still check out the Olympic Park today.

St. George: This is an excellent year-round getaway for all ages. St. George is located in the southwest corner of Utah and was named for the 19th century LDS Church apostle George A Smith. This part of Utah is also where three geographic regions converge: the Mojave Desert, the Colorado Plateau, and the Great Basin. All of this provides the perfect opportunity to explore the outdoor regions and take great pictures. If you don’t want to take in the outdoors you can relax at one of the many hotel spas.
