An Evening of Entertainment That's All For Mental Health

Advocacy organizations bring art, food, music, and an open mic to raise awareness and support in destigmatizing mental health

A concert, an open mic night, and free tacos walk into a bar. Well, a warehouse, actually. And it's all to support mental health, by sharing stories, music and art that help end the stigma of it and many of its related issues, like homelessness.

Hosted by The Sugar Space Arts Warehouse in Salt Lake City, this multi-faceted soiree and entertaining evening is also supported by the Fathers & Families Coalition of Utah, and the Utah Department of Human Services, both co-sponsors of the event.

"We have all been impacted by mental illness or homelessness — whether we've lived through these things ourselves, or know a loved one or someone in our community who has." The Facebook event invite states. "Art and music can be a powerful way to de-stigmatize mental health/homelessness, and create a supportive community that fosters acceptance, care, and kindness."

The March Concert for Mental Health features an open mic where attendants are invited to "share your personal journey through poetry or song" according to the event description. The event will also feature a pop-up gallery "with pieces from youth artists in incarceration, as well as art from youth who are experiencing homelessness and/or those who live with mental illness."

Not least of all, the evening's entertainment will include local musical act Rebel Rebel, self-described as "SLC's premier glitter trash band."

The evening will be hosted by the Youth of Utah Advocacy Coalition and the Sugar Space Arts Warehouse, which is the venue.
