Les Miserables Family In Utah Belts Out Song Like Broadway Pros

FRUIT HEIGHTS, UT — Many of us try to sing songs from Broadway musicals and many of us fail dismally. But not the LeBaron family of Fruit Heights, Utah, who posted a video on social media of a breathtaking performance of “One Day More” from “Les Misérables,” the musical based on Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel.

Turn the sound up on your computer and listen to the rich baritones, sweet sopranos and perfect harmony. The 10 members of the family are ready for the stage, a point Jayson LeBaron made on his Facebook page.

“Anyone looking to do ‘Les Misérables’ for their next show?” he wrote. "Better yet … anyone looking for an entire cast?”

Jayson, who played the part of prisoner Jean Valjean, told KUTV he and his siblings grew up singing together and all married someone who was also musically talented.

“We all got involved with musical theater and did a lot of shows in high school and college,” he said. “Music has been a unifying thing in our family.”

It also has been healing.

Dennise LeBaron, the matriarch of the singing LeBarons, told KSL-TV that “singing is the glue that has held our family together during the tough times.”

That includes the sudden death of daughter, Holli, in 2002, and the diagnosis of son Landon with autism. Landon plays the part of Inspector Javert, the antagonist in Les Misérables

The LeBaron Singers perform all over Utah and “come together in the good times and during the trials with music keeping us real, and keeping us together, and keeping us happy,” Jayson LeBaron said.

They recorded their video after their family Easter dinner, but they also have a regular karaoke night. The video has been viewed more than 9.3 million times on Facebook and 6.9 thousand times on YouTube. The LeBarons are surprised with the response.

“Jordan posted it on Facebook and then it went crazy,” Jayson said.
