Nathan Chen Figure Skating Schedule, Results: 2018 Olympics

Figure skater Nathan Chen had a rocky start to his quest for a medal in the 2019 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

Nathan Chen made his Olympic debut in Pyeongchang last week at the team event and Chen will now compete in the individual event. The 18-year-old figure skater is one of the most watched American athletes at the 2018 Winter Olympics and is regarded as being in a good position to take home an Olympic medal.

At the team event, Chen struggled in the men's short program, falling on the landing of his triple axel attempt and finished in fourth place. Team USA took home the bronze in the event.

Chen is not letting his performance at the team event bring him down. He said he has to give himself more time time to think about what happened so he doesn't make those same mistakes again.

"Honestly just let myself down, let the team down, that was the first thing that I thought," Chen said after his performance. "And definitely not a representation of who I am and what I can do, definitely just need to work harder for the next couple days and plan appropriately."

He said his teammates were supportive of him and he would be more ready for the individual event. In the individual event, Chen is widely expected to take home a medal.
